Mustang Trot News-

Way to go Marshdale! We are off to a great start, but still have a ways to go to reach our goal of $25,000.  If 50% of our students raise $50.00 each by Friday, September 20th, the whole school will get popsicles at lunch. This week, the traveling trophy will be awarded to the class that has received donations from the most states. Look at your class map, see which states are missing, and ask friends and families who live in those states for a donation.

Our annual PTA Reflections Contest, a national program that helps students explore their own creative ideas and develop artistic literacy, is in full swing. This year's theme is "Look Within" and entries are accepted in the categories of dance, film, literature, music, photography and visual arts. Entries are due to Marshdale by October 21st.  Information was sent home, but if you have any questions, contact Melissa Baynes at

Thank you to everyone who has joined PTA. The names of all of the members were entered into a drawing and four lucky parents have each won a $20 Amazon Gift Card which will be sent home this week. Congratulations to Kellie Fee, Katie Barnes, Michele Force, and Anjie Julseth-Crosby. PTA will hold a drawing for another $20 Amazon Card for current and new members on September 27th. Join PTA online at Memberplanet or complete the attached Membership Form and send a check to the office. Forms can be found at

STEAM-based program that engages children using Legos, K’Nex and technology.

Denver Zoo Wild Scientists!

K-2nd grades

Students conquer fears, build confidence, and learn to empathize with animals as they become nature scientists who use their senses and science tools to explore zoo animals and wildlife in their own communities. Denver Zoo instructors will come prepared with various science tools that will help students discover nature in their own neighborhoods, animal costumes to encourage role play, and outdoor weather gear to take kids outside in any season.  New animals brought to class each week!

3rd-5th grades

Students will engage with the phenomenon “Even though all animals—including me—poop, my neighborhood isn’t covered in poop!” The students get to drive the direction of learning—do they want to explore waste’s effect on animals in their local watershed? What about the ecological implications of this phenomenon? As a class, they will decide what angle to explore next based on their interests and current learning, and the instructor comes prepared with authentic learning materials and science tools to helps the learners explore nutrient cycles through various science practices. Throughout their investigations, students will be asked to reflect on their resilience in the face of challenges, and commit to focusing on their traits that scientists use every day (collaboration, curiosity, careful observation, etc.).  Each week, part of students’ investigation involves meeting a different live animal ambassador that connects to the question of the day, such as a lizard, owl, millipede, or amphibian. New animals brought to class each week!

The start date has not changed.  However, per Denver Zoo, registration must close two weeks prior to the start date to ensure we can still get a refund.   This means we need registration payment on or before September 19th.  We need a minimum of 14 kids / class to avoid canceling.  If we get enough registrations (15+), the class cost / student will decrease and we will be able to refund a portion back to you.

To register, make checks out to Marshdale PTA for $86 and return to the office or to Melissa Baynes.
